Why heat and cold, together

A quick look at why the sauna and cold plunge work better as a pair than either does alone.

The sauna and the cold water are not really two separate things — they are one experience in two parts. The heat opens you up; the cold snaps you back. Most people say the best feeling comes right after the plunge, not during the heat itself.

You do not need to be an experienced cold-water swimmer to get something out of it. A short, brisk dip is enough to feel the contrast. Build up the time in the cold gradually as you get used to it.

Whether you come alone for some quiet time or bring a group of friends, the routine is the same: warm up, cool down, repeat, and leave feeling better than when you arrived.
